You can update an existing free program to a paid one at any time. No need to rebuild it from scratch - just set a price, connect Stripe if you haven't already, and choose how to handle your existing clients.

⚠️ Before you start
You need a connected Stripe account to publish a paid price. If Stripe is not yet set up, FITR will prompt you to complete Stripe onboarding when you add the price
You can change a program from free to paid but not from paid back to free - this is permanent
🖥 How to change a free program to paid
Open the program you want to update
Go to Edit Program
Add or update the program price
Save your changes
If Stripe is not yet connected, you will be prompted to complete Stripe onboarding before the paid price can be published. Once Stripe is connected and your price is saved, the program is available for purchase.
⚙️ What happens to your existing free clients
When switching to paid, you choose how current subscribers are handled.
Option 1 - Keep current clients on free access
Existing subscribers keep access to the program at no cost. Only new clients who sign up after the change will be charged. Use this to reward early adopters or clients you want to grandfather in.
Option 2 - Cancel all current free subscriptions
All existing client subscriptions are cancelled immediately. Affected clients receive an email notification and can resubscribe to the paid version. Use this if you want everyone on the same paid plan going forward.
📣 Notifying your clients
After choosing how to handle current clients, you can send a bulk direct message to all affected clients. You can send the suggested message as-is, edit it before sending, or skip it entirely. The suggested message updates automatically based on which option you chose.
If you chose Option 2, the message will also include a link to the paid program so clients can resubscribe, plus an option to copy the program URL to share yourself.
🔧 Troubleshooting and FAQs
Can I change a paid program back to free?
No. Once a program has been made paid it cannot be switched back to free.
Will existing free clients be charged automatically?
No. Existing free clients are never automatically charged. You choose whether to keep them on free access or cancel their subscription so they can resubscribe to the paid version.
I added a price but the program is still showing as free
This usually means Stripe onboarding was not fully completed. Check your Stripe connection status in Settings and complete any outstanding steps.
