Session 1 Day 1 is FITR's most widely used program type for online coaches running a subscription programming business. It solves a specific problem: how do you run one program that serves hundreds of clients, when those clients joined at completely different times and are all at completely different points in the training?
The answer is that every client starts from Week 1 Day 1 when they join — regardless of when anyone else joined. You write the content once, and each client works through it from the beginning at their own pace. One program, one set of content, but each client on their own individual journey through it.
📋 When to use Session 1 Day 1
You want a subscription program that new clients can join at any point throughout the year
You want every client to start from the very beginning of your program, not from wherever the group currently is
You write content once and want it to serve all clients, even though they are at different points in the program
You want to keep adding new content over time, with all clients eventually reaching it as they progress
⚙️ How Session 1 Day 1 actually works
Every client starts from the beginning
When a client joins your Session 1 Day 1 program, their experience starts at Week 1 Day 1 — your very first session. It does not matter that another client who joined three months ago is already on Week 12. Each client's progress is completely independent.
Example: You have a 52-week programming service. You launched in January and have been running it ever since. A client who signed up in January is now on Week 40. A new client signs up today — they start from Week 1. When the first client reaches Week 52, the new client will still be on Week 12. They are both on the same program, with the same content, just at different points in their personal journey through it.
Clients can only see 7 days ahead — and this cannot be changed
This is one of the most important things to understand about Session 1 Day 1. Every client can see exactly 7 days of upcoming training, and this window rolls forward by one day, every day. You cannot change this to more or less — it is fixed.
Why? Because different clients are at different points in the program. If one client is on Week 6 and another is on Week 22, they are seeing completely different content. The 7-day window ensures that clients can only see content they have legitimately paid to reach — not sessions they have not yet arrived at.
What this means practically: Your clients wake up each morning and see today's session plus the next six days. On Day 7, the next day unlocks. It creates a natural, daily rhythm — clients come back every day to see what is coming.
Content updates sync once per day — not in real time
When you add or edit content in a Session 1 Day 1 program, clients do not see the change immediately. Updates sync to client apps once per day, just after midnight in your time zone. This is by design — it prevents clients from seeing half-finished sessions if you are mid-edit.
What this means practically: If you write next week's sessions tonight, your clients will see them tomorrow morning. If a client messages you asking why they cannot see training you just added — it will be visible for them the following day.
You must stay ahead of your furthest-along client
Because clients can see 7 days ahead, you need to keep at least 7 days of content written in advance of wherever your most progressed client currently is. If your most advanced client is on Week 30 Day 4, you need to have content written through at least Week 31 Day 4.
If a client reaches a point where there is no content, they will see a blank calendar — which is a poor experience. Build a habit of writing content at least 2 weeks ahead to give yourself a comfortable buffer.
🖥 Setting up a Session 1 Day 1 program
The setup order is: Create → Write → Invite
Build your content first, then invite clients. You want at least a few weeks of sessions ready before anyone joins.
Go to Programs and click Create a Program
Select Session 1 Day 1 as the program type
Set the program name, price, description, and welcome message
Start building your training content — aim for at least 4 weeks before you open sign-ups
Publish the program and open it to clients
Continue adding content each week, always staying ahead of your furthest-along client
💡 Real-world examples
Online CrossFit programming subscription: You post five sessions per week. New clients join every month, each starting from Week 1. By Month 6, your earliest clients are on Week 24 and your newest are just beginning. You write one week of new content every week and post it. Everyone follows the same quality programming at their own stage.
52-week strength program: You have built an annual periodisation model. Clients subscribe and progress through it over a year. Some clients will renew for a second year and start again from Week 1, getting a fresh run through the same program with a year's more training behind them.
Nutrition coaching program: You have a 12-week progressive nutrition and habits curriculum. Clients join throughout the year. Each starts from your Week 1 habits module, regardless of when they join. When they complete Week 12, the program ends and they can choose to resubscribe or move on.
🔧 Troubleshooting and FAQs
I just added content but my client cannot see it
Session 1 Day 1 syncs once per day, just after midnight in your time zone. The client will see new content the following morning. This is expected and cannot be overridden.
A client wants to move back to an earlier week (they had a break)
You can reschedule a client to any week and day from the Active clients tab. This is a coach-only action — clients cannot move themselves backwards.
A client is ahead of where my content ends
They will see a blank calendar from the point your content ends. Add more content immediately and they will see it the following day. This is why writing 2+ weeks ahead at all times matters.
Can I give one client more than 7 days of visibility?
No. The 7-day visibility window is locked on Session 1 Day 1 and cannot be changed for any client. If you need to give clients full upfront access to all content, use Fixed Length instead.
