1-2-1 Program Type (Coach)

A full guide to the 1-2-1 program type on FITR - how individual client calendars work, how to invite clients, when to use Manual Invite, and how to structure your 1-2-1 offering.

Updated today

The 1-2-1 program type is built for coaches who provide a genuinely personalised service - where every client gets their own training, written for them, in their own private calendar. It is the closest thing on FITR to the traditional personal trainer relationship, delivered at scale through a structured platform.

Understanding how 1-2-1 programs work - and how they differ from group programs - is essential before you build anything.

πŸ“‹ When to use a 1-2-1 program

  • You write different training for every single client - their plan is unique to them

  • You want to manage all personal coaching clients under one program at one price point

  • You need to start building a client's training before they sign up and begin paying

  • Your clients need a bespoke calendar synced to their real-world schedule

βš™οΈ How 1-2-1 programs actually work

One program, many individual calendars

When you create a 1-2-1 program, you are creating a container - not a schedule. The program holds all your 1-2-1 clients at a given price point, but each client who joins gets their own completely private, bespoke calendar that only you and they can see. No client can see another client's training.

Think of it like this: the program is the folder, and each client's calendar is their own personal file inside it. You open each file individually and write training directly into that client's calendar - day by day, week by week, exactly as you would if you were building a bespoke plan in a spreadsheet, but delivered directly through the app.

Clients start from their join date

There is no shared schedule. When a client joins your 1-2-1 program, their calendar starts from the date they join (or a date you set). Their Week 1 Day 1 is their personal start date β€” nothing to do with any other client on the program.

How far ahead clients can see

You control this per client. You can let a client see a week ahead, a month ahead, or as far ahead as you like. This is useful if, for example, you want to write four weeks of training upfront and let a client see it all at once - or if you prefer to release sessions one week at a time.

πŸ–₯ Setting up a 1-2-1 program

The setup order for 1-2-1 programs is different from group programs: Create β†’ Invite β†’ Write

You create the program and invite clients first, because FITR needs a client in the system before it can generate their calendar. Only then can you start writing their training.

  1. Go to Programs and click Create a Program

  2. Select 1-2-1 as the program type

  3. Set the program name, price, description, welcome message, and any waiver

  4. Publish the program

  5. Invite your clients using one of three methods (see below)

  6. Open each client's individual calendar and write their training

πŸ‘₯ How to invite clients β€” three methods

Manual Invite (recommended for new clients)

You add the client by name and email address. They appear in your Pending tab immediately. Crucially, their calendar is created right away β€” which means you can start writing their training before they formally accept the invite or make a payment.

This is the best approach when you want to prepare a client's first few weeks of training before their programme begins. When you are ready, you send the formal invitation from the Pending tab and the client signs up and moves to Active.

Email Invite

FITR sends the client a direct sign-up link by email. They click, sign up or log in, and appear immediately in your Active clients tab. No Pending stage β€” they go live straight away.

URL / Link Invite

You share a program link directly (via WhatsApp, email, your website, etc.). The client follows the link, signs up, and goes directly to Active. Best for clients who are ready to pay and start immediately.

πŸ’‘ How most coaches structure their 1-2-1 programs

You only need one 1-2-1 program per price point. Here is a common example:

  • A coach charges Β£200/month for 1-2-1 coaching. They have one 1-2-1 program set at Β£200/month. All 12 of their 1-2-1 clients sit inside it β€” a powerlifter, a marathon runner, a beginner looking to lose weight, a teenage hockey player. Each has their own completely separate calendar. The coach opens each calendar individually and writes training for that person.

If you offer two tiers of 1-2-1 coaching β€” say, a standard tier at Β£150/month and a premium tier at Β£300/month with more check-ins β€” you would create two separate 1-2-1 programs, one for each price point.

πŸ”§ Troubleshooting and FAQs

I cannot write training before a client signs up

  • Use Manual Invite. This adds the client as Pending and generates their calendar immediately, so you can build their plan before they formally join. Do not use Email Invite or URL Invite if you want to write content first.

A client cannot reschedule their own sessions

  • 1-2-1 clients cannot self-reschedule. Their calendar is bespoke and managed by you. To move sessions, reschedule on their behalf from within their program calendar in your coach dashboard.

I accidentally created another 1-2-1 program instead of adding clients to my existing one

  • You only need one 1-2-1 program per price point. Move your clients into the correct program and archive the duplicate. Contact Support if you need help with this.

Can I add a daily leaderboard to a 1-2-1 program?

  • No, daily leaderboards are not available on 1-2-1 programs because each client has a different schedule. Use Challenges instead if you want a competitive element.
