Add a Coupon to a Client's Active Subscription (Coach)

How to apply a coupon discount to a client's existing subscription, either by having the client apply it themselves, or by applying it via Stripe as a coach.

You can add a coupon to an existing client subscription at any time. There are two ways to do this - the client can apply the code themselves, or you can apply it directly in Stripe. The coupon takes effect from the client's next billing date.


πŸ“‹ When to use this

  • You want to apply a discount to a client who is already subscribed

  • You are rewarding a long-term client with a reduced rate

  • You are grandfathering in existing clients at the old price after a price increase


πŸ“± Option 1 β€” Client applies the coupon themselves

This is the simplest approach. Share the coupon code with your client and ask them to:

  1. Click the More menu next to the relevant program subscription

  2. Select Add discount code and enter the coupon code


πŸ–₯ Option 2 β€” Coach applies the coupon via Stripe

This method applies to coaching accounts created after 1 February 2022. You will need to have already created the coupon inside FITR before applying it in Stripe.

  1. Create the coupon in FITR Coupons if you have not already

  2. Log in to your Stripe account

  3. Go to Customers and find the client in the list

  4. Next to their active subscription, click the three dots menu

  5. Select Update subscription

  6. Click Add coupon

  7. Choose the coupon from the list and click Submit

  8. Click Update subscription to confirm

The discount will apply from the client's next billing date.


πŸ”§ Troubleshooting and FAQs

The coupon is not appearing in Stripe to apply

  • The coupon must first be created inside FITR, and not directly in Stripe. Go to your FITR Coupons section, create it there, then return to Stripe to apply it.

When does the discount take effect?

  • The coupon applies from the client's next billing date, not immediately.
